John Lithgow gives Newt Gingrich's press release the dramatic reading it deserves

Set Fire to the Rain--Thor (Thor/Loki) by [livejournal.com profile] talitha78; vid
I haven't seen the movie, but I know those of you who have are gonna dig this liek whoa.

Slow Bullet (the Ellen remix) by claudiapriscus; SPN; Ellen-centric gen; PG-13; short
I love this story of Ellen coming to terms with Jo's need to hunt and with her own feelings about hunting. Excellent mother-daughter fic.

A Traveler Knows a Traveler by Mira; SGA; Radek/Ronon, Weir/Lorne; Adult; long
What a lovely fic in which Radek and Ronon slowly come together. Beautiful world building, yay for Elizabeth, and I wish it had 17 sequels.

Past & Pending by meansgirl; SGA; Lorne/Radek; Adult; long
This is an AU in which Lorne and Radek do not meet in the Stargate program. It's very sweet and very hot and hits just the right bit of angst. I do so love the rare pairs.

On This Night of All Nights by [livejournal.com profile] ladyofthelog; BtVS; Willow/Kennedy; PG; short
Willow and the Scoobs celebrate the holidays. *adores fiercely*

Reparations by [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl; HP; Draco/Harry; Adult; looooooooooong
An equally long and satisfying sequel is linked in the last post of the first fic. This is such lovely worldbuilding--from Harry's life at the hospital as a Healer, to Draco's work with chemically dependent Wizards, to the pureblood crap that Harry has to navigate at the Manor. This is one of the most emotionally satisfying HP stories I've read: good writing, excellent characterization, interesting plot, angst and humor. *loves*

Of Pride, Piercings, and a Particularly Profound Prurient Proficiency by Tarie; HP; Neville/Seamus; Adult; short
While there are a handful of typos and such sprinkled throughout, I really enjoyed this canon-compliant look at what the kids left behind at Hogwarts were up to while the Trio were tromping all over looking for Horcruxes. What I love most in this fic is the mix of desperation and fear and horror with friendship and love and moments of grace.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by [livejournal.com profile] alixtii; Peter Pan; short
This is fabulous. Man I love what fandom does with the Peter Pan story and with Captain Hook in particular. This story is no exception.

When I Wake Up by [livejournal.com profile] claireweasley. This Zoe-centric, PG-13 rated fic takes place after the BDM and is a lovely story about Zoe finding herself again after Wash's death. Claire has a gift, not just for dialogue, but for making the third person narrative voice of her writing sound like it belongs in the 'verse. Above all, this is a story about family, and about the way that time and distance can never really dissolve that bond.

From a Safe Distance by [livejournal.com profile] lyrstzha and written expressly for moi! Another Zoe-centric fic that deals with the aftermath of Wash's death. It's no secret that I think Lyr is a fantastic writer, and with sentences like this--Zoë reaches out with hands that do not shake to fold the inner secrets of her husband’s body gently back into place--it's not hard to see why.

Soon Parted by [livejournal.com profile] executrix This Book/Mal fic is rated Adult. Exec takes a rare pairing and makes it fun, funny, witty and more than a little inevitable. And ye gods is her dialogue spot on as always: I believed you 'cause if a chamber pot is gettin' emptied out a window anywhere in this Galaxy, the contents will find a way to my head. But the best part is that she says the fic is all my fault. *grins*

Coalescence by [livejournal.com profile] wily_one24 This is a Kaylee/Simon, River/Jayne fic that is so deliciously disturbing. I normally do not buy Rayne, but this is chillingly believable. More than a hint of CSI.

Doorway by [livejournal.com profile] valiant Wash/Zoe, Wash/Simon Dear Gods is this the hottest thing ever!!!!!!!!! *fans face* This simply must be read; it'll make you very happy in your pants.

Misc Fandoms

A Hundred Years Ago by [livejournal.com profile] trifles This is set in the universe of Peter Pan and is told from Wendy's perspective. It's about the impulses of mothering and the dread of aging and the deep regret of love that goes unrecognized . It's more than a little disturbing and heartbreaking. I think of the fic as one of the parcels that Wendy finds in Peter's dreams, something sharp and aching covered by layers of gauze and cotton. If you read nothing else I've recc'd this post, read this. You will not regret it.
