Holiday in Scotland:

Even worse than I imagined. This was a perfect episode. Everyone, even Thomas and O'Brien, ending up better off than they started. Everyone in love, and everyone so kind to each other, and Lord Fucking Grantham finally admitting how right and wonderful Matthew is.

Y'all, I trust in your infinite wisdom, I just do not see how I can like this show half so well with him gone.

I made my friend tell me if Bates or Anna die before she left tonight because I think that would do it for me.

The first time I tried to watch Downton Abbey, I didn't even get to this episode, because I'd pre-spoiled myself on it. I thought, well, Matthew's my favorite, so why bother now? But the second time I tried it, I pushed through. And it was worth every minute of watching. The show will *continue* to rip your heart out, but it will put it back again. IMO, so very worth it to continue.

That's what everybody keeps saying! But no one else but you has thought Matthew a favorite, so I am especially comforted.

I just like him so damn much. I liked him from the first instant when he was a fish out of water and slightly contemptuous of the aristocracy and I liked him even more when he started to see the point of some of the things he'd disdained and then even more when he made Mary into her best self and continued to be so kind to Tom and OMG I LOVE MATTHEW CRAWLEY.

Oh yeah, definitely. Even after that, the show never lost its charm. It's a roller coaster, no doubt about that, but every high and low is so satisfying.

Matthew was fantastic, all over. Insisting on remaining in his law practice! The Dowager's face when he talked about "weekends". XD And oh, oh, poor Moseley's entire dejectedness when Matthew wouldn't let him be a proper valet, to the sheer joy when Matthew finally did. And I adored the earl's speech to him about the people of Downton and that whole dawning realization. Je cared, and he had to show Matthew how to care, it was great. (This is all on top of the fact that Dan Stevens pretty much fits right smack into my blond/blue-eyed/British type. XD )

That scene with Molsley is just fabulous. I love Molsley as well, bless his little heart. LOL

I think what I am worried about most is Matthew's mom. I wonder if she will regret putting off the doctor once her grief over his death has diminished from the first, sharp edge? And I wonder if she'll leave? I mean, I don't think even Lord Snotty Pants would throw her out, but I wonder if she'll feel like she should.

Someone suggested when the episode was over that Tom and Mary should now get married LOL. Which I know is not going to happen at all, but I think it would make for an extremely excellent fanfic.

LOL My whole family was in agreement that Tom and Mary would make a good couple. They both want to see Downton survive! It would work! (I couldn't begin to introduce them to the concept of fanfic, unfortunately. Though I have managed to get away with "people on the internet think...." XD )

Heeeee.

My husband and older daughter know about fanfic and that I write it, but I would never talk about it with my parents. My dad has never had an email address. He has never searched the web for anything. It would be beyond his ken. LOL My mom is more internet savvy, and she would probably get it but latch on the salacious aspects.
