I'm sitting on a massive book review post, but I haven't made it because I've been very busy.

This week is the Victorian Popular Fiction conference, and they're very wonderfully doing a hybrid conference. I have had great fun participating so far (although I must admit that getting up at 4:00 a.m. for the first round of panels each morning has been a no-go for me LOL). My presentation went very well this morning; I was extremely nervous because Andrew King is the president of VPFA, and he's one of the top three Ouida scholars, and I do not want to look like a dumbass in front of this guy. But he was unable to attend my session according to the moderator because he was off doing presidential duties. So, whew. However, this guy who is a Ouida fanatic ([personal profile] chelseagirl, the guy featured in that Ouida article you linked me to) who I'm friends with on Goodreads was in the audience; he asked me an insightful question, and it was lovely to speak to him in person. One day of the conference left; Andrew King's paper on Ouida is tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.

In other news, yesterday I met with last year's Senate Chair and received transition documents (my idea when I was Chair of Executive Committee to have all committee/board chairs create transition documents that include the basics of operation plus unfinished business and that are updated at the end of each year; thank you, Past Me) and talked about the logistics of what this role will entail. We have an excellent working relationship and have had some of this conversation before, but now I feel really solid about what I'm going to be doing.

What did I get today? A request to be on a hiring committee, a request to appear at New Employee Orientation to be introduced to all new employees, and a request to make a presentation (possibly the same presentation three times for three different groups; that's not clear to me) at New Faculty Orientation about what tenure-track faculty should be doing in their first three years leading up to pre-tenure review in terms of career development. Thank goodness this position comes with a course release. LOL I am going to be so busy.

Emma and I are going shopping on Saturday because I do not possess the clothes to keep up with all these demands for my appearance. I have largely been off campus for the last two years, but now I have to be on campus four days a week plus meetings on many Fridays. Time to spend some money!
