When I got married in 2001, I shit y'all not--the state of Mississippi gave us a Hefty bag full of goodies when we filed our marriage license. The special gifts that our well meaning state intended to imbue our marriage with lifelong happiness included samples of cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products, coupons for various items with which a new housekeeper might like to stock her pantry, and this glorious book. I realized right then and there who my conservative state held responsible for keeping my marriage alive. That's right, folks. Me. The wifely one. If I could only keep the toilet clean, brush my teeth regularly, and motivate myself to wear deodorant, Josh and I would be off to a good start. But if all these marriage aids failed, I still had Amanda Stevens on my side.

See, in this Harlequin Intrigue novel, "Grace Drummond was between a rock and a hard place--and both were Brady Morgan!" Notice the exclamation point, my friends. Grace and Brady come together in a veritable barrage of exclamation points. While riding in the car, Grace notes that Brady's "coat smelled of mountain air and wood smoke, and Grace, city-born and raised, was surprised to find that the scent stirred something primal and feminine inside her." This tip would come in useful for me; if I ever needed to feel primal and feminine (like a Mama Grizzly, maybe), a mere whiff of Josh's clothes after a bonfire should do the trick. At the end of this book, Grace, who has to go into the witness protection program, tests out her new name on Brady, but ultimately pronounces that all she's "interested in being is Mrs. Brady Morgan." This last page kinda stumped me, y'all, as I have never been Mrs. Nobody and wasn't about to start just because I walked down the aisle. I figured if Josh and I role-played FBI agent and reporter in custody for long enough though, I might overcome my deficiencies. LOL

This book is hardly fit for burning, and yet I keep it in pride of place and in (as Emma would say) ABC order with the other tomes on the bookshelf. Who knows what might happen to my marriage if I didn't? :)
